Cuts would shift 6,000 sailors to sea duty - Navy News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Navy Times: "The Navy proposes reassigning 6,000 sailors to sea, eliminating various staffs including that of one carrier strike group, and disbanding the Norfolk, Va.-based 2nd Fleet, according to defense officials.
The changes mean the end of the Navy’s lean manning experiment and enact some recommendations of the Balisle fleet review panel, which found in February that years of crew reduction and cost-cutting initiatives had degraded the surface fleet."
